About
My buddy Marc likes board games. In his free time, he likes to make boards for games he likes. This Thanksgiving (2024), he came to the community gathering with a game of his own invention. This is a digital version of that game.
Rules (Vanilla)
The game is played with 2 players.
Pieces: Each player has an unlimited number of checkers, as well as one "principal" piece.
Board: The board consists of 25 tiles arranged in a grid, with a manhattan distance of 0-4 from the center. There is a base located at the center of the board (the "center base"), as well as at each of the furthest tiles in the cardinal directions (the "side bases"). All other tiles are part of the field ("field tiles").
Setup: Principals are placed on opposite side bases, and each player places two checkers, diagonally adjacent to the center base (NW+SE and NE+SW).
Turns: Black plays first. The player may either place a checker on an open field tile, or with one of their own checkers, jump an adjacent opponent's checker. A tile is considered adjacent if it is one tile away in any direction, including diagonals. The jump desination must also be an empty field tile. If a checker has been jumped, flip it. If a checker has been newly placed, and it sandwiches an opponent's checker (adjacent opponent checker, friendly checker 2 away in the same direction), the player then flips that enemy checker. Only 1 checker may be flipped in this manner. However, a principal prevents jumps and flips. If a checker has been flipped, the player then moves their own principal to either an adjacent (from the principal) friendly checker, or one of the bases if possible. More than one principal may occupy a base. It is now the opponent's turn.
Victory: The first player to move their principal to the center base and then back to any of the side bases wins.
